Mary Kay Williams, MSN, FNP-C
A patient’s first contact with the Bariatric Surgery Program is Mary Kay Williams, a Family Nurse Practitioner with a wealth of experience. Mary Kay has worked in the nursing field for more than 25 years. She leads the Educational Seminars during which patients learn about the Bariatric Program and the available options.
Mary Kay holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Ferris State University, where she graduated with highest distinction, and a master’s degree in nursing from Grand Valley State University. She is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
She joined Grand Traverse Surgery, PC in 2002 to assist with the development of the Bariatric Program. She received additional training in bariatrics at the University of Texas and at Ohio State University’s Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery.
When she’s not working, Mary Kay enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, Tom, and their two sons, Jeff and Jack, who are both graduates of Michigan State University. She participates in most outdoor sports, including jogging, snowshoeing, biking, boating, and golfing. In quieter moments, she likes to garden and read.
Mary Kay finds working with bariatric patients very rewarding, both personally and professionally. “These patients are given a second chance to live their lives to the fullest. It’s rewarding to help them set new goals and watch them be successful.”
“The instant I met Mary Kay she made me feel relaxed and comfortable. She even made my husband comfortable. This whole thing can be overwhelming but when we met with Mary Kay it was like a big weight was off our shoulders. We knew we were in the right place. She is perfect for her job.”
